1/15/2010 (and the weekend)

Above is a study I did in ink of a flower. I did this study to get myself familiar with using the ink pen again. This is not complete yet, but as of now I really enjoy the center where there is clearer movement and areas of light and dark. I want to imrpove my handling of the pen and become more confident in my marks.

Plan for Weekend Uploads:
1. Ink Flower Rework

2. Painting of Blue and Green Glasses
(picture did not come out well at all so will retake it in art center and then upload)

3. Met Piece

4. Colored Pencil Teapot
(same case as 2)

5. Start Concentration Piece

Above is a piece I did in watercolor. I wish I had planned better and created the piece so it does not have such a central emphasis. I enjoy how it shows how the images of the lemons are altered when they are inside the glass bowl. The sides are angled or "cut off".

6. Experiments.

I still need to add the rock it is lying on and the resulting shadows. This is based on a sculpture at the Met. Here I was just experimenting with soft pastel.
Edit-upload reworked image here.

The two above are each based on the same sculpture at the met. The first is an unfinshed experiment with watercolor while the second I decided to experiment with pen and a different technique. Rather than using the crosshatching method I decide dto create blocks of shadow to create form. I saw this same method used on the hymn book in church and thought it was very interesting.
