My idea here was to incorporate my idea of the carnival and how time at a carnival seems to last for ever within a crystal ball that has the capability to produce an unrealistic and symbolic image. I believe that the strength of this piece is the attention to detail in the hands. However, I think that the emphasis is too close to the center and I want to try to find a way to fix this.

With this piece I hoped to capture a memory at a carnival where a young girl tries to pull her mother aside to see the baloons. I also wanted to show the youth of the girl and the happiness of the scene to help create the timeless feeling. I think that the strength of the piece is the use of color to create shapes. The background, however, is not completed for I am not sure at this moment what to do with it. In each piece (dealing with a carnival) over the summer I wanted to repeat certain elements to help the pieces be somewhat coherent.
This piece was the first piece I attempted to complete over the summer. I wanted this to be my "experimental" piece where I could go outside of my comfort zone and try to mix charcoal and color playing with the colored light coming from the fireworks. I like how in certain areas the white charcoal has come color and how the orange paper comes through as well, but I believe that the piece is too simple. Too much detail is lacking.
Lastly, I chose to do something different (not relating to a carnival. Over the summer I had visited a lot of colleges with unique buildings. This building was one at Lehigh that I found to be very interesting because of all the details involved in it. I believe that one of the strengths of this piece is the detail, especially in the main tower. However, I think that the piece could use more contrast in order to create a more significant light source.
